1468.18 PROJECTING SIGNS.
   (a)   Every projecting sign, including the frames, braces and supports thereof, shall be designed by a structural engineer or manufacturer, shall be in compliance with this Building and Housing Code, shall be constructed of non-inflammable materials and shall be two faced.
   (b)   No reflectors of the goose-neck type shall be installed or maintained on projecting signs.
   (c)   Any glass forming a part of any sign shall be safety glass or plate glass at least one-quarter inch thick, and in case any single piece or pane of glass has an area exceeding three square feet, it shall be safety or wired glass.
   (d)   Any movable part of a projecting sign, such as the cover of a service opening, shall be securely fastened by chains or hinges.
   (e)   Projecting signs which are not over the public way shall be limited in area as follows:
      (1)   Horizontal signs shall be fifty square feet each side.
      (2)   Vertical signs shall be 100 square feet each side.
   The distance between the principal faces of any projecting sign shall not exceed eighteen inches.
   (f)   The bottom of every sign projecting over a public sidewalk shall be at least ten feet above the finished grade beneath the sign. The gap between the sign and the face of the wall to which it is attached shall not exceed two feet, nor shall any such sign or part thereof extend nearer than one foot to the curb line. The bottom of every sign projecting over a public street or alley shall be not less than fifteen feet above the finished grade beneath the sign.
   (g)   Projecting signs exceeding ten square feet (each face) in area or fifty pounds in weight shall not be attached to or supported by frame buildings or the wooden framework of a building. Such signs shall be attached to masonry walls with galvanized expansion bolts at least three-eighths of an inch in diameter, shall be fixed in the wall by means of bolts extending through the wall, shall contain proper size metal washers or plates on the inside of the wall and shall comply with the requirements of Section 1468.08. No projecting sign shall be secured with wire, strips of wood or nails, nor shall any projecting sign be hung or secured from or to any other sign.
