§ 93.077  IDENTIFYING NUMBERS FOR STRUCTURES.
   (A)   Identifying numbers.
      (1)   Identifying numbers are commonly referred to as house numbers or addresses.
      (2)   An example is “301 East Clinton St.”
   (B)   Divisional streets. Main Street is the divisional street between east and west, Clinton Street is the divisional street between north and south.  In the case of a physical street not existing, an assumed line will continue, providing a divisional line, where the street would have been, extending to the corporate limits.
   (C)   Numbers required. The owner of any structure fronting any street within the city is required to place or cause to be placed in a conspicuous place, the assigned number of the structure plainly indicated by appropriate figures of the size and material specified hereafter.  It shall be unlawful for any person to take down alter, destroy, or conceal any number assigned to any structure, or substitute an erroneous or improper number on a structure.
   (D)   Assigning of numbers. The assigning of numbers shall be the responsibility of the City Engineer or his or her assigned representative. All numbers assigned by the City Engineer shall coincide to the existing coordinate or Lyman numbering system for the city.
   (E)   Type, size, and placement. ll numbers placed upon a structure shall be of a durable, weather resistant material such as metal or plastic, of a size not less than three inches in height by two inches in width. Half numbers or letters must also conform to the provisions as previously outlined.  The number shall be plainly visible, secured to the structure at eye level, not to exceed six feet in height from the porch or step level. The figures shall be secured to the structure on the outside front in the vicinity of and not to exceed two feet in distance on a horizontal plane from the front entrance door.  In the case a front entrance door does not exist the number must be plainly visible in some conspicuous place on the outside front, at the required height, from the foundation.  If the number becomes defaced, removed, destroyed, or so worn as not to be plainly visible, the owner of the structure shall replace the number.  Script writing or letters in lieu of numbers is prohibited. Businesses or any structure accessible to the public, with a rear door shall also mark that door in the same fashion as required for the front entrance.
