The Chief of the Fire Department shall have charge of all buildings, apparatus, tools and other property belonging to or used by the department; shall see that the property is maintained in good condition, and that the fire apparatus is kept in repair and ready for immediate use.
The Director of Purchases and Supplies shall purchase such supplies as may be necessary for the use of the department, and shall see that all supplies and material purchased or furnished are properly and economically used; provided, that nothing in this section shall be construed to prevent the Chief of the Fire Department from making such repairs and furnishing such supplies as may be necessary to keep the fire apparatus in good condition for immediate use.
