335.17   DISPLAY OF CERTIFICATES OF REGISTRATION.
   (a)   The operator of a "commercial tractor" as defined in Ohio R.C. 4501.01, when such tractor is required to be registered under Ohio R.C. 4501.01, 4501.02, 4503.02 to 4503.10, inclusive, 4503.12 to 4503.18, inclusive, and 4505.01 to 4505.19, inclusive, shall, when operating such commercial tractor, trailer or semitrailer on the streets, roads or highways of this State, display inside or on such vehicle the certificate of registration for such commercial tractor, trailer or semitrailer provided for in Ohio R.C. 4503.19, or shall carry such certificate on his person and display such certificate upon the demand of any State Highway patrolman or police officer of the City or other peace officer.
   (b)   Every person operating a commercial tractor, trailer or semitrailer required to be registered under Ohio R.C. 4501.01, 4501.02, 4503.02 to 4503.10, inclusive, 4503.12 to 4503.18, inclusive, and 4505.01 to 4505.19, inclusive, shall permit the inspection of the certificate of registration upon demand of the Superintendent or any member of the State Highway Patrol or police officer of the City or other peace officer of this State.
   (c)   No person shall fail to display or fail to carry and display a certificate of registration or fail or refuse to permit the inspection of such certificate of registration as required in this section.
   (d)   Whoever violates this section is guilty of a minor misdemeanor on a first offense; on a second offense within one year after the first offense, the person is guilty of a misdemeanor of the fourth degree; on each subsequent offense within one year after the first offense, the person is guilty of a misdemeanor of the third degree.
