141.05 LEGAL DEFENSE OF POLICE OFFICER.
   Should any member of the City Police Department be sued in a civil or criminal action as a result of his or her lawful discharge of the duties imposed on him or her by law or ordinance, the Director of Law is hereby authorized and directed to act as the legal counsel of the officer and to defend the civil or criminal action on behalf of the officer.
   Nothing in this section shall be construed as waiving the City's defense of governmental function or governmental immunity, nor shall any provision hereof be construed to impute the liability of any such officer to the City, nor shall any provision hereof be construed to require the City to pay any judgment rendered against the officer, nor shall any provision hereof be construed to require the City to reimburse any such officer for legal expenses incurred in obtaining legal counsel.
