STREET NAMING; HOUSE NUMBERING
SECTION:
7-5-1: Street Naming System
7-5-2: House Numbering
7-5-1: STREET NAMING SYSTEM:
There is hereby adopted and established a uniform system of street names, the general plan of which is as hereinafter set forth:
   (A)   All streets which extend in a northeasterly and southwesterly direction parallel or approximately parallel to what is known as Main Street shall be known as "streets". Main Street shall continue to be known as and called Main Street, but all streets parallel thereto shall be designated by numbers. Fifth Street as shown on the plat of Erie and additions shall continue to be known as Fifth Street. First, Second, Third and Fourth Streets are assumed streets to be hereafter laid out to the southeast of and parallel to said Fifth Street. Proceeding northwesterly from said Fifth Street, the streets shall be numbered consecutively except that there shall be no Ninth Street or Tenth Street but said numbers shall be skipped and the first street northwesterly from the railroad right of way shall be known as Eleventh Street.
   (B)   All streets which extend in a northwesterly or southeasterly direction approximately at right angles to Main Street shall be known as "avenues". Water Street as shown on the plat of the original town of Erie shall be known as Fifth Avenue. First, Second, Third and Fourth Avenues are assumed streets to be hereafter laid out southwesterly from Water Street and approximately perpendicular to Main Street. The avenues which are northeasterly from Water Street shall be numbered consecutively excepting for such short and irregularly placed streets as may be otherwise specially named from time to time.
   (C)   All streets which because of direction or irregular spacing do not conform to the plan hereinbefore outlined shall retain their original names as shown on the plat of Erie and additions.
   (D)   Names of existing streets as changed and fixed by this section and the name or names of such streets as shown on the plat of Erie and additions are as follows:

7-5-2: HOUSE NUMBERING:
House numbers shall be assigned by allowing one hundred (100) numbers to the block beginning with First Street and First Avenue respectively. The numbers shall be assigned consecutively allowing one number for each fifty feet (50') of lot frontage with the even numbers on the southeasterly side of the streets and on the southwesterly side of the avenues and the odd numbers on the opposite side. Where streets or avenues do not extend through a block or for any other reason the size of the block is irregular, numbers shall be so assigned as to keep numbers which lie approximately the same distance northwesterly or southeasterly from Main Street or southwesterly or northeasterly from Eighth Avenue of approximately the same magnitude. (Ord. 153, 4-25-1955; amd. Ord. 482, 9-23-1997)
