5-2-10: DOG OR CAT BITES; PROCEDURE:
Any dog or cat which shall bite any person or injure any person shall be kept under the observation of a licensed veterinarian for a period of ten (10) days, and the veterinarian shall, at the end of the ten (10) day period make a written report to the health officer and should said dog or cat show evidence of rabies, it shall be destroyed in a humane manner. In the event the dog or cat is pronounced free from rabies by the veterinarian, said dog or cat shall be released to the owner upon the owner's compliance with the provisions of section 5-2-11 of this chapter. If the owner does not claim the dog or cat at this time, any person may redeem it by making a like payment. If the dog or cat is not claimed as set forth herein, said dog or cat shall be destroyed in a humane manner. (Ord. 401, 11-8-1988)
