856.01 DEFINITIONS.
   As used in this chapter:
   (a)   "Business of private investigation" means, except when performed by a person who is excluded under Ohio R.C. 4749.01(H), the conducting, for hire, in person or through a partner or employees, of any investigation relevant to any crime or wrong done or threatened; to obtain information on the identity, habits, conduct, movements, whereabouts, affiliations, transactions, reputation, credibility or character of any person; to locate and recover lost or stolen property; to determine the cause of or responsibility for any libel or slander, or any fire, common accident or damage to property; or to secure evidence for use in any legislative, administrative or judicial investigation or proceeding.
   (b)   "Business of security services" means either of the following:
      (1)   Furnishing, for hire, watchmen, guards, private patrolmen or other persons whose primary duties are to protect persons or property; or (2) Furnishing, for hire, guard dogs or armored motor vehicle security services, in connection with the protection of persons or property.
   (c)   "Class A licensee" means a licensee issued a Class A license under Ohio R.C. 4749.03, which qualifies the person issued the license to engage in the business of private investigation and the business of security services.
   (d)   "Class B licensee" means a licensee issued a Class B license under Ohio R.C. 4749.03, which qualifies the person issued the license to engage only in the business of private investigation.
   (e)   "Class C licensee" means a licensee issued a Class C license under Ohio R.C. 4749.03, which qualifies the person issued the license to engage only in the business of security services.
   (f)   "Department of Commerce" means the division of licensing established within the Ohio Department of Commerce under Ohio R.C. to administer the provisions of Ohio R.C. Chapter 4749.
   (g)   "Private investigator" means any person who engages in the business of private investigation.
   (h)   "Quarterly reports" means written reports received no later than January 15, April 15, July 15 and October 15 of every year. These quarterly reports, due on the fifth day of such months, shall include information current as of January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1 of every year.
   (i)   "Security guard provider" means any person who engages in the business of security services.
   (j)   "Transfer" means any lease, sale or other disposition of at least twentyfive percent of the assets or control of the agency or business.
   (k)   "Written notice" means notification, in writing, that is mailed, telegraphed or delivered to the address of the person for whom such notification is intended. If mailed, such notification shall be by first class mail.
