(a) There is hereby created and established a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee. Founding members are volunteers who responded with interest to the Human Resources Department and are committed to meet and discuss the need to organize and create a culture and work environment of acceptance, mindful and respectful of others differences by providing educational opportunities to its workforce that embraces and promotes the diversity, equity and inclusion of all employees regardless of their age, color, race, religion, disability, gender, sexual orientation and/or gender identity, national origin or veterans' status as a priority for the City.
(b) All members of the DEI Committee shall consist of employees of the City.
(c) At the organizational meeting in January of each new year, and effective as of January of 2023, the DEI Committee Members shall vote on a DEI Committee Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer.
(d) (1) The DEI Committee shall be composed of thirteen members, with no more than two persons from the same department shall be accepted as a member in order to obtain a more diverse membership. A quorum will be defined as a simple majority of members.
(2) A member may be identified as inactive if such member is consistently unavailable and/or absent for more than three consecutive monthly meetings without proper notice to the Secretary of the Committee. Once identified as inactive such member may be subject to being dismissed from the Committee by a majority vote.
(3) New members may be solicited by invitation to apply. All prospective members shall apply to the DEI Committee. The DEI Committee will accept or deny a membership by a majority vote. To be accepted as a Committee Member the individual will desire to work for the DEI Committee, will commit to monthly meetings and periodic events, be willing to volunteer their time and services and have the time available to serve.
(4) If a member is accepted into the Committee by a majority vote to fulfill a vacancy, such members' term would be effective the calendar year in which they became a member.
(e) DEI Committee Member terms are based on the calendar year and shall serve a three-year term. Should a member not be able to fulfill their term, such member shall resign in writing to the Secretary of the Committee, who will then send out notice to the elected officials, department heads, and all City employees that a volunteer is needed to fulfill such vacancy or vacancies.
