9-1-5: INSTALLATION AND CONNECTION REQUIREMENTS:
   A.   Service Pipes: Every service pipe must be laid in such manner as to prevent rupture by settlement. The service pipe must be placed not less than seven feet (7') below the surface and in all cases so arranged so as to prevent rupture by freezing. Service pipes must extend from the curb box to the inside of the building or, if not taken into a building, then to the hydrant or other fixtures which it is intended to supply. There shall be a curb cock in every service line. Said curb cock shall be placed as near as possible to the street side of the sidewalk if on a street, or within one foot (1') of the alley line if the main is located in the alley. Curb cocks shall be supplied with "T" handles and shall be enclosed in a substantial iron case covered with a tightfitting lid with the letter "W" cast upon it. A shutoff or other stopcock with waste valve, of the size and strength required, shall be placed close to the inside wall of the building, well protected from freezing. Copper tubing shall be kept to a minimum without a joint used for a service up to one hundred feet (100') in length. All joints shall be left uncovered until inspected. All services over two inches (2") shall be iron. Connections with the mains for residential supply shall be at least one inch (1"). (New Market 2004 Code § 6-3-5; amd. 2011 Code)
   B.   Check Valves: Check valves are required on all water connections to steam boilers or any other connection deemed by the Water Superintendent to require one. Safety and relief valves shall be placed on all boilers or other steam apparatus connections with the water system. (New Market 2004 Code § 6-3-5)
