§ 156.006  DEFINITIONS.
   Whenever any words defined in this section appear in the balance of this chapter, they shall have the definition provided following their entry in this section. Other words or phrases may be defined in the sections of this chapter where they appear. Words or phrases not defined in this section or in the sections of this chapter where they appear shall have their common dictionary meaning.
   APPRENTICE PLUMBER. As defined according to I.C. 25-28.5-1-2.
   CLASS 1 STRUCTURE. As defined according to I.C. 22-12-1-4.
   CLASS 2 STRUCTURE.  As defined according to I.C. 22-12-1-5.
   CONTRACTOR.  The same meaning as PLUMBING CONTRACTOR.
   CONNECTION TO PRIVATE SEWER.  Where a sewer is constructed to provide connection between the public sewer and a building that has waste producing facilities and where there is 1 or more such building connected to such a private sewer each such building shall count as 1 connection.
   CORPORATION STOP. A valve located on the water main.
   CURB BOX. An enclosure to provide access to a curb valve. A curb box takes the form of a tube of a length and diameter sufficient to allow a curb key to reach and control a curb valve.
   CURB KEY.  A device to control a curb valve. A curb key takes the form of a long rod or tube with a cross handle on one end and a suitable receptacle to fit on the top of and provide a means to turn the curb valve.
   CURB VALVE.  Also known as a curb stop. A valve used to turn off a water supply. The curb valve is the point from which the property owner assumes responsibility for the water service onto his property.
   EXCAVATOR.  The same meaning as PRIVATE SEWER CONTRACTOR.
   FLOOR DRAIN.  Any device intended to collect or receive any liquid borne matter whether waste, soil, oil, grease, sand or other matter that might be present on a floor.
   FROST PROOF SILLCOCK. The same meaning as SILLCOCK.
   GREASE AND OIL INTERCEPTOR. As defined according to 675 IAC 16 Indiana Plumbing Code and as adopted in § 156.003.
   INDUSTRIALIZED BUILDING.  As defined according to I.C. 22-12-1-14.
   JOURNEYMAN PLUMBER.  As defined according to I.C. 25-28.5-1-2.
   LICENSE. As defined according to I.C. 25-28.5-1-2.
   LIQUID BORNE MATTER.  Any matter that might be mixed with, float upon, carried by or otherwise associated with any water or other liquid that might be introduced into a public sewer or private sewage disposal system.
   MANUFACTURED HOME. A structure, transportable in 1 or more sections, which, in the traveling mode, is 8 body feet or more in width or 40 body feet or more in length, or, when erected on site, is 320 or more square feet, and which is built on a permanent  chassis and designed to be used as a dwelling with or without a permanent foundation when  connected to the required utilities, and includes the plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and electrical systems contained therein; except that such term shall include any structure which meets all the  requirements of this definition except the size  requirements and with respect to which the manufacturer voluntarily files a certification required by the Secretary of Housing and  Urban Development and complies with the standards established under 42 U.S.C. 5401 et  seq. and except that such term shall not include any self-propelled recreational vehicle.
   MOBILE HOME.  A factory built structure intended as a single family residence that was constructed  prior to 1976.
   MOBILE STRUCTURE. As defined according to I.C. 22-12-1-17.
   PLUMBING APPLIANCE. As defined according to 675 IAC 16 Indiana Plumbing Code or as defined according to 675 IAC 14 Indiana Residential Code.
   PLUMBING APPURTENANCE.  As defined according to 675 IAC 16 Indiana Plumbing Code or as defined according to 675 IAC: 14 Indiana Residential Code.
   PLUMBING FIXTURE.  As defined according to 675 IAC 16 Indiana Plumbing Code or as defined according to 675 IAC 14 Indiana Residential Code.
   PLUMBING PERMIT.  An authorization issued by the city to perform certain actions.
   PLUMBING. As defined according to I.C. 25-28.5-1-2.
   PLUMBING CONTRACTOR. As defined according to I.C. 25-28.5-1-2.
   PLUMBER. As defined according to I.C. 25-28.5-1-2.
   PRIVATE SEWAGE DISPOSAL SYSTEM.  A sewage disposal system located on private property and under the control of the property owner or other private entity.
   PRIVATE SEWER.  A sewer located on private property that is used to connect 2 or more structures to the public sewer or to a private sewage disposal system.  Such private sewer may extend over several lots, serve multiple dwelling units, serve mobile home parks or other usages where said sewer is on private property and remains under the control of private individuals, or corporations. Private sewers do not extend into a structure.
   PRIVATE SEWER CONTRACTOR.  A person or company that engages in the business of installing sewer lines, mains and or other sewage and waste lines outside a building.
   PROBATION.  A limited period of supervised operation by a person, corporation, or  other business entity otherwise registered under the provisions of this chapter.
   PUBLIC SEWER.  Any sewer under the control of the city.
   REGISTRATION.  The act of presenting a State of Indiana Plumbing License to the City of Elkhart, Building Department and fulfilling the requirements of  § 156.023.
   RESIDENTIAL.  As defined according to Article 14 - Indiana Residential Code and the Article 13 - Indiana Building Code and as adopted according to § 156.003.
   SAND AND GRAVEL INTERCEPTOR.  A device intended to separate sand or gravel from other liquid borne matter and prevent sand or gravel from entering into the public sewer system.
   SILLCOCK (also known as a HOSE BIBB).  A device to provide means to connect a hose or otherwise obtain water outside a structure. These devices generally take their supply of water from inside a structure. A frost proof sillcock is a sillcock that is designed to have its means of halting water flow in a heated space.
   SOFTENER BY-PASS.  A device that is installed in a potable water line and is designed and fabricated to provide a controlled opening to allow the connection of a water softener or other water treatment device and is intended to require the least amount of pipe and fittings to connect between said by-pass and the softener or other water treatment device. For purposes of this definition, CONTROLLED OPENING means any valve, stop, stop-cock or other device that allows access to, or the opening into, a potable water supply line without requiring the cutting into or disassembly of the potable water supply line, and where WATER TREATMENT DEVICE means any equipment designed to alter the condition of potable water as supplied, by either mechanical or chemical means.
   SOIL.  As defined according to Article 16 - Indiana Plumbing Code and as adopted in § 156.003.
   SUSPEND.  The act of denying a privilege granted under this chapter for a period less than 1  calendar year.
   UNSANITARY. Its usual and customary meaning.
   WASTE. As defined according to Article 16 - Indiana Plumbing Code and as adopted in § 156.003.
   WATER TREATMENT DEVICE.  Any device designed to alter the character of potable water as received at the point of service. This may be by means of mechanical filtration or by chemical treatment.
