(A) (1) It shall be the duty of the Electrical Inspector to enforce the provisions of this chapter. He or she shall upon application grant permits for the installation or alteration of electrical equipment, and shall make inspections of electrical installations as provided in this chapter.
(2) He or she shall be responsible for the maintenance of electrical equipment for the civil city and shall cooperate with the Fire and Police Departments in the maintenance of signal and alarm circuits.
(3) He or she shall keep complete records of all permits issued, inspections and reinspections made, and other official work performed in accordance with the provisions of this chapter.
(4) He or she may hold membership in the International Association of Electrical Inspectors and with the consent of the Mayor shall serve on any electrical committee of these associations to which he or she may be appointed and shall be allowed all necessary expenses in connection with these activities.
(B) (1) The Electrical Inspector is empowered to employ, after receiving the approval of the Mayor, any assistants necessary for the proper conduct of his or her office and the inspection of electrical installations as provided for in this chapter.
(2) The salary of his or her assistants shall be determined by the Mayor and the City Council.
(C) It shall be unlawful for the Electrical Inspector or any of his or her assistants to engage in the business of the sale, installation or maintenance of electrical equipment, either directly or indirectly, and they shall have no financial interest in any concern engaged in that business at any time while holding office as herein provided except that the Electrical Inspector shall be responsible for the maintenance of electrical equipment of the civil city and shall cooperate with the Fire and Police Departments in the maintenance of signal and alarm circuits.
