(A) There is created the office of Electrical Inspector. The person chosen to fill the office of Electrical Inspector shall: be possessed of executive ability requisite for the performance of his or her duties; have a thorough knowledge of the standard materials and methods used in the installation of electrical equipment; be well versed in approved methods of construction for safety to persons and property, the statutes of the state relating to electrical work, and any orders, rules and regulations issued by authority thereof, and the National Electrical Code as approved by the American National Standards Institute; and shall have had at least 5 years experience in the lines of electrical installation for which he or she would be responsible as Inspector, or in lieu of this experience shall hold at least an associates degree from a recognized electrical or mechanical engineering school, college or university and in addition shall have 2 years practical experience. Within 1 year of appointment, the Electrical Inspector shall be certified by the National Certification Program for Construction Code Inspectors as an electrical inspector.
(B) The Electrical Inspector shall be appointed by the Mayor.
(C) The salary to be paid to the Electrical Inspector shall be determined by the Mayor and City Council in accordance with Indiana law. Before entering upon the discharge of his or her duties, he or she shall file a bond in the amount of $8,500 in accordance with the provisions of Ord. 4543, payable to the city, the bond to be approved by the City Council conditioned upon the faithful performance of his or her duties. The Electrical Inspector shall also take and subscribe an oath, which, together with the certificate of his or her appointment, shall be filed with the City Clerk.
