A. Appointments And Promotions: Appointments to and promotions within the police department, other than to the office of chief of police and the positions of deputy chief and commander, shall be made by the board of fire and police commissioners in the manner provided by law.
B. Discharges: No police officer shall be discharged from the department except after a hearing on charges before the board of fire and police commissioners as provided by law; provided, that this shall not be construed as affecting the power of the Mayor and board of trustees to appoint and remove the chief of police.
C. Reduction In Work Force: Any reduction in the number of employees in the police department, other than a discharge for cause as set forth in subsection B of this section, shall be done in accordance with section 6.5, "Reduction In Work Force", of the personnel rules and regulations of the village.
