§ 92.61 AUTOMATIC SMOKE DETECTORS OUTLETS REQUIRED IN RENTAL RESIDENTIAL DWELLING UNITS.
   (A)   A minimum of one 120-volt outlet shall be installed outside each sleeping area in each dwelling unit within single-family dwellings, two-family dwellings, apartment houses, condominiums and/or town houses for the connection of approved fixed automatic smoke detectors (non-plug-in) as required in the State Building Code Vol. I-B, § 35.
   (B)   Automatic smoke detector outlets required in residential dwelling units. The outlets shall be located on or near the ceiling in accordance with the listing and the instructions of the manufacture of the approved automatic smoke detector.
   (C)   Exception: The 120-volt outlets specified in this section shall not be required when an approved automatic smoke detecting system is installed which provides equivalent protection and whose primary source of power is 120-volts.
   (D)   Note: The wording in this section is identical to the wording contained in § 210-71, state amendment to the 1990 National Electric Code adopted 4-15-1990.
   (E)   Local Exception No. 1: At least one listed detector either battery powered or a 120-volt (plug-in-type) shall be installed, in rental residential dwelling units constructed prior to 1-1-1975. A detector shall be installed outside each sleeping area. Detectors shall have either a visible light to indicate operability or an audible trouble signal. Audible trouble signals shall be designed to operate at least every minute for seven consecutive days. The alarm signaling device shall emit not less than 85 decibels at ten feet. Detectors shall be on or near the ceiling installed in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
