The city council may by ordinance require bonds for elected and appointed city officers and employees for the faithful performance of all official duties required by law in such amounts as the council may determine based on the amount of money or property handled and the opportunity for defalcation, and may do so either by way of individual bonding, blanket bonding, or combination thereof.
