4-1-16: BOARD OF APPEALS:
The board of appeals shall be appointed by the mayor with the concurrence of the city council. There shall be three (3) members of the board. One member shall be a member of the city fire department; one member shall be a consumer/citizen of the city; and one member shall be an architect or engineer or construction contractor. Each member of the board shall serve for a term of three (3) years from the date of appointment. The terms of the members of the board shall be staggered so that the initial terms for the members shall be one, two (2) and three (3) years respectively. Thereafter, each board member shall serve a term of three (3) years. The public works director shall be an ex officio member of and shall act as secretary to the board but shall have no vote on any matter before the board. The board shall determine the suitability of alternate materials and methods of construction and provide for reasonable interpretations of the uniform codes adopted in this title.
