§ 53.014 BUILDING SEWERS.
   (A)   Separate and independent building sewers. A separate and independent building sanitary sewer shall be provided for every building, except where one building stands at the rear of another on an interior lot and no private sanitary sewer is available or can be constructed to the rear building through an adjoining alley, court, yard, or driveway; the building sanitary sewer from the front building may be extended to the rear building and the whole considered as one building sanitary sewer.
   (B)   Old building sewers for connections. Old building sewers may be used in connection with new buildings only when they are found on examination and test by the Director of Public Works to meet all requirements of this ordinance.
   (C)   Size, slope, alignment, and materials. The size, slope, alignment, materials of construction of a building sewer, and the methods to be used in excavating, placing of pipe, jointing, testing, and backfilling the trench shall conform to the requirements of the building and plumbing code or the standards and specifications of the village and shall be subject to the approval of the Director of Public Works, but the slope of such sewer pipe shall be not less than 1%.
   (D)   Building sewer elevations. Whenever possible the building sewers shall be brought to the building at an elevation below the basement floor. In all buildings in which any building drain is too low to permit gravity flow to the public sewer, sanitary sewage carried by such building drain shall be lifted by approved artificial means and discharged to the building sewer. No building sewer shall be laid parallel to or within three feet of any bearing wall, which thereby be weakened. The depth shall be sufficient to afford protection from frost. The building sewer shall be laid at uniform grade and in straight alignment insofar as possible. Changes in direction shall be made only with properly curved pipe and fittings.
   (E)   Compliance with building codes. The connection of the building sewer into the public sewer shall conform to the requirements of the building and plumbing codes, or other applicable standards and specifications of the village, or the procedures set forth in appropriate specifications of the American Society of Testing Materials, Water Pollution Control Federation Manual of Practice No. 9 and Standard Specifications for Water and Sewer Main Construction in Illinois. All such connections shallbe made gastight and watertight. Any deviation from the prescribed procedures and materials mustbe approved by the Director of Public Works beforeinstallation.
   (F)   Notification for inspection. The applicant for the building sewer permit shall notify the Director of Public Works when the building sewer is ready for inspection and connection to the public sewer. The connectionshall be made under the supervision of the Director of Public Works or his or her representative.
   (G)   Protection of excavations. All excavations for building sewer installation shall be adequately guarded by the applicant with barricades and lights so as to protect the public from hazard.
