§ 50.002 EXCAVATIONS.
   It is unlawful for any person having any pipes, wires, cables, conduits, or arteries used in conveying water, gas, electricity, or any other public utility product to the consumers or residents of the city, or other products to others, through the mains, wires, cables, arteries, or conduits which are laid in, through, or under the streets, alleys, or other public ways or places in the city, to dig up or open up or excavate any street, alley, or other public way or place where the mains, pipes, wires, cables, arteries, or conduits are laid, except to make necessary repairs to the mains, pipes, wires, cables, arteries, or conduits; provided, that any person desiring to dig into or excavate in any street, alley, or other public way or place in the city shall, before so doing, make application to the Board of Public Works and Safety for a permit to do so; and provided further, that the application shall be in compliance with this code and with §§ 97.075 through 97.083 of this code.
