It is unlawful for any person, in any illegal manner, to set at liberty, rescue, or attempt to set at liberty any prisoner or prisoners from any officer or employee of the city having legal custody of the same or from any holding facility or other place of confinement by the city or to assist such prisoner in any manner to escape from such facility or custody either before or after conviction, including escape from a vehicle of confinement.
