147.02 POWERS AND DUTIES OF CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION.
   (a)   The Civil Service Commission shall prescribe, amend and enforce rules consistent with the requirements of Ohio R.C. Chapter 124 for the classification of positions in the Civil Service of the City and in the service of the Defiance City School District, for examinations therefor and resignations therefrom, and for standardizing such positions and maintaining efficiency therein. No person shall be appointed, removed, transferred, laid off, suspended, reinstated, promoted, or reduced as an officer or employee in the civil service in any manner or by any means except those prescribed by Ohio R.C. Chapter 124 and the rules of the Civil Service Commission. In the discharge of its duties, the Commission shall exercise with respect to the Civil Service of the City and of the City School District, all powers vested in the Director of Administrative Services and the State Personnel Board of Review with respect to the Civil Service of the State.

   (b)   No person is eligible to receive an original appointment as a police officer or fire fighter on or after his or her fortieth birthday and no person shall be disqualified as over age prior to that time. (Ord. 8485. Passed 3-7-23.)
