(a) The Dog Warden shall impound dogs found running at large and hold them for a period of seventy-two hours, during which time he or she shall take reasonable steps to notify the owner of the impounding. If the ownership of the impounded dog is not determined within the seventy-two hour period, or if the owner of an impounded dog, after having been notified of the impounding, fails to claim the impounded dog within forty-eight hours of notification, the Dog Warden shall dispose of the impounded dog in a manner as he or she may decide.
(b) When the owner makes claim for the recovery of any impounded dog, the Dog Warden shall collect from the owner the costs of maintenance and other fees as may be necessary before releasing the dog. (Ord. 2663. Passed 2-18-69.)
