The intersections described below are designated stop intersections. When appropriate signs conforming to the requirements of this traffic code are erected at the entrances to such intersections, the operator of a vehicle approaching any of the streets where a sign has been erected shall bring such vehicle to a full and complete stop before entering the intersection, except when directed by a police officer to do otherwise.
