1-6-7: CRIMINAL HISTORY BACKGROUND CHECKS:
   A.   The Dawson police department is authorized to do a criminal history background check investigation on applicants for city employment, volunteer positions and contractors/consultants hired to provide services to the city. Background investigations of contractors/consultants will only be done if they have access to sensitive city systems and information such as security information and private data. Before the investigation is undertaken, the applicant/individual must authorize the police department in writing to undertake the investigation and to release the information to the city council, city manager and other city staff as appropriate. Should the city reject the applicant/individual due, partially or solely, to the applicant/individual's prior conviction of a crime, the city manager shall notify the applicant/individual in writing of the following:
      1.   The grounds and reason for denial;
      2.   The applicable complaint and grievance procedure set forth in Minnesota statutes section 364.06;
      3.   The earliest date the applicant/individual may reapply for employment; and
      4.   That all competent evidence of rehabilitation will be considered upon reapplication. (Ord. 291, 2-15-2011)
