7-1-11: WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS, TRUCK ROUTES, TRUCK PARKING AND TRUCK TRAFFIC:
   A.   In accordance with the powers granted in Minnesota statutes chapters 169.87 and 169.34, the city of Dawson hereby restricts truck traffic to an improved route within the city. This action is to prevent the continued deterioration of streets not designed for such traffic, the potential safety hazards, and the abatement of noise, odors, and other nuisances associated with truck traffic in residential areas and other areas where such traffic may be in conflict with the existing land use.
   B.   For the purpose of this section, the following terms will be defined as follows:
    TRUCK: Any motor vehicle that weighs in excess of ten (10) tons (20,000 gross vehicle weight rating - GVWR) but does not include the following vehicles:
      1.   Sanitation/garbage trucks.
      2.   Emergency vehicles.
      3.   Public maintenance vehicles.
      4.   Moving vans or vehicles at such times as the same is used to move an individual, family, or business and their possessions to or from a residence or business.
      5.   Delivery and construction vehicles that are in route to or from a place of delivery of goods and services or the construction site (but such delivery and construction vehicles must use truck routes when the same are available).
      6.   Recreation vehicles, motor homes, camping trailers, travel trailers, fifth wheel camping trailers.
      7.   Tree trimming service vehicles.
      8.   Buses.
   C.   No person, firm or corporation shall operate, drive, tow or park any vehicle, or combination of vehicles, with a gross vehicle weight rating of over twenty thousand (20,000) pounds on any city street which has not been classified as a truck route.
   D.   All tractors and tractor trailer combinations are prohibited from parking on any residential street except in designated truck routes. All tractor trailer combinations must remain hooked together at all times when parked. No vehicle or combinations shall remain parked for more than six (6) hours. Seasonal parking restrictions will apply.
   E.   The chief of police or his designated person may authorize an overweight vehicle to use a street or roadway other than a truck route in an emergency situation.
   F.   The city streets or roadways designated as truck routes are:
Alley between 8th Street and 9th Street between Walnut and Locust
Chestnut Street between 5th Street and 7th Street

Johnson Street between 5th Street and 7th Street
Lincoln Place between 6th Street and 8th Street
Lincoln Place from Highway 212 to 12th Street
Locust Street between 5th and 6th Street
Locust Street between 8th Street and Memorial Place
North Park Street and Northeast 1st Street
Pine Street between 5th Street and 7th Street
Spruce Street between 6th Street and 7th Street
Walnut Street between 7th Street and 9th Street
North 3rd Street
Southeast 3rd Street and East Linden Street
5th Street between Pine Street and Johnson Street
6th Street
North 6th Street East
North 6th Street West
7th Street between Spruce Street and Walnut Street
North 7th Street
12th Street between Highway 212 and Locust Street
   G.   Any person or entity violating any provisions of this section may either be levied an administrative fee or issued a state citation at the discretion of the officer. A violation shall be considered a misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) and/or ninety (90) days' jail. (Ord. 317, 7-5-2016)
