(a) In addition to the salaries and compensation provided for the members of the Fire Department, the Village shall furnish the cost of all dress uniforms required by members of the Fire Department. Any uniform ruined or destroyed in the line of duty within one year from the date of purchase shall be replaced by the Village with the approval of the Fire Chief. The Fire Chief, subject to the approval of the Mayor, shall designate the design and style of the uniforms for the Fire Department.
(b) Dress uniforms in the Fire Department may be replaced after no less than five years of normal use at Village cost, subject to approval of the Fire Chief.
(c) Allowable items may be purchased by a member with the approval from the Fire Chief. The member may purchase an item he or she deems necessary, at intervals designated by the Fire Chief, not to exceed the amount established in the policy set forth by the Chief per calendar year. The allowable items in the Fire Department are as follows:
Firefighters:
4 work shirts
4 summer shirts
4 summer T-shirts
4 pairs of pants
4 (packages) socks (black)
2 crew-neck sweatshirts
1 insulated winter hooded sweatshirt
1 Blauer jacket (approved style)
1 pair of winter gloves
1 turtleneck shirt
1 pair of shoes (approved style)
1 belt
1 knit cap
1 pair of sweat pants and/or shorts
1 Department gear bag (every 3 years)
1 squad jacket (every 3 years)
1 pair of squad boots (every 3 years)
1 top coat (every 5 years)
(d) The written approval of the Fire Chief shall precede any purchases. No allowance shall be made for purchases unless such items are needed.
(e) The Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief shall be permitted a uniform allowance in lieu of the foregoing which shall be subject to the approval of the Mayor. Instances where such costs exceed nine hundred dollars ($900.00) shall be subject to the prior approval of Council.
(f) The Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, and full-time firefighters shall receive an annual clothing maintenance allowance of six hundred dollars ($600.00) per year, payable annually in December of each year, unless otherwise set forth in an applicable collective bargaining agreement. If employment qualifying for said clothing maintenance allowance terminates prior to December of the applicable year, the allowance shall be prorated.
