§ 93.27 IMPOUNDMENT AND REDEMPTION PROCEDURES.
   (A)   Dog pound.
      (1)   Pound provided. There shall be provided and maintained at some suitable place a dog pound for the impounding of all dogs found running at large within the village limits contrary to any ordinance of the village or for any other dogs which, by this subchapter, are required to be impounded.
      (2)   Poundkeeper. The Mayor is hereby authorized and empowered to designate the person as he or she may deem appropriate, whether residing within or outside the boundaries of the village, to act as poundkeeper and to collect and receive the charges for dogs impounded in accordance with the provisions of this subchapter.
   (B)   Impoundment and redemption; costs.
      (1)   It shall be the duty of the Chief of Police or some person designated by him or her to enforce the provisions of this subchapter and to take up and impound any dog found running at large or not wearing a collar and license tag in the village as required by this subchapter.
      (2)   Upon impounding any dog, the Chief of Police, or person designated by him or her, shall notify the owner thereof, if the owner can reasonably be identified; and the owner shall be entitled to redeem the dog, if unlicensed, by paying the current year’s license fee and a redemption fee of $50, plus the cost of keeping the dog while impounded and if licensed, by paying a redemption fee of $50, plus the cost of keeping the dog while impounded. If the dog is not redeemed within three days, the same may be humanely destroyed, sold or disposed of by the village as the Chief of Police may determine and direct.
