(A) General. Where a required fire protection system is out of service, the Fire Department will be notified immediately and the building will either be evacuated or an approved fire watch will be provided for all occupants left unprotected, until the fire protection system has been returned to service.
(B) Fire watches.
(1) Where utilized, fire watches will be provided with at least one approved means for notification of the Fire Department and their only duty will be to perform constant patrols for the unprotected premises and keep watch for fires.
(2) The person on fire watch will either be a State of Indiana certified Firefighter I/II and be able to present current certification documentation (copies) when requested, and approved by the Fire Chief and/or his designee or another person qualified and approved by the Fire Chief and/or his designee. The fire watch will have direct ability to communicate with the Fire Department dispatch center. Examples/recommendations for potentially qualified person to perform Fire Watch:
(a) Building supervisors.
(b) Maintenance personnel familiar with the building and its components including the
fire alarm/sprinkler system.
(c) Indiana certified firefighter or police officer.
(d) Security personnel familiar with the building and its components including the fire alarm/sprinkler systems.
(3) The building owner shall assign a person to comply with the requirements of this section. In the absence of a specific designee, the owner shall be responsible. (It is recommended that the person designated be the person responsible for maintain the building fire protection systems; this may be the building owner or other designee, such as the plant manager or building engineer, if he or she is trained properly.
(C) Restoration of equipment. When impaired equipment is restored to normal working order, the person designated under division (B)(3) shall verify that all of the following procedures have been implemented.
(1) Necessary inspections and tests have been conducted to verify that affected systems are operational.
(2) Supervisors have been advised that protection is restored.
(3) The Fire Department has been advised that protection is restored.
(4) The building owner/manager, insurance carrier, alarm company and other involved parties have been advised the protection is restored.
(5) The impairment tags removed.
