(A) The Chief of the Fire Department is in charge of all fire fighting apparatus belonging to the city, and is responsible for the safekeeping and care of the same. He shall have command and control of the entire department when in active service at fires and the general supervision of the members of the department at all times, he shall be responsible for their conduct under the rules of the Board of Public Works and Safety. He shall see that all provisions of this code for the prevention of fires and the protection of property against fires are enforced. He shall see that all property and apparatus for extinguishing fires are kept in good order.
(B) In the absence of the Chief of the Fire Department, the Assistant Chief shall have full charge of the Department to perform all duties of the Chief. In the absence of the Chief and the Assistant Chief, the next senior officer of the Department shall perform the duties of the Chief.
