(A) The Fire Merit System is amended under the authority of IC 36-1-4-14.
(B) The Fire Merit Commission is established and its members appointed as IC 36-8- 3.5-6 requires. The Commissioners are:
(1) Two persons appointed by the Mayor;
(2) One person appointed by the Common Council; and
(3) Two persons elected by the Fire Department’s active members.
(C) The Fire Merit System will be governed by the terms and provisions of the model merit system as stated in IC 36-8-3.5 and in effect on the effective date of this section, with the exception of that the minimum age to be considered for appointment to the Department requires an applicant to be at least 18 years of age, but under 36 years of age.
(D) The amended Fire Merit System will take effect July 15, 2019.
(E) All components of the city's Fire Merit System not amended by this section remain in full effect.
(F) No current Department member's rank or other standing as of the date of adoption of the amendment of this section will be affected by the amendment's passage and adoption.
