(A) Asphalt pavement section repair around the sewer manholes and water line valve boxes should be as shown on the attached detail incorporated in § 156.04.
(B) Prior to performing the asphalt repair, a clean cut should be performed around the manhole or valve box. The asphalt cut should be performed in a diamond shape according to the traffic direction as shown on the standard detail incorporated in § 156.04.
(C) After removing the asphalt pavement thickness, the exposed soils should be scarified to a depth of eight inches. The scarified soil should be compacted to 95% of ASTM D698 (Standard Proctor) maximum dry density at a moisture content within 3% above or below the ASTM D698 optimum moisture content.
(D) Steel reinforcing rebar shall be grade 40 steel, and concrete shall have a minimum compressive strength of 4,000 pounds per square foot.
(E) Traffic should not be allowed to travel on the concrete pavement section until the concrete has obtained a minimum compressive strength of 3,000 pounds per square foot.
