509.04 MUFFLER; MUFFLER CUTOUT; EXCESSIVE SMOKE, GAS OR NOISE.
   (a)   Every motor vehicle with an internal combustion engine shall at all times be equipped with an exhaust system which is in good working order and in constant operation. No vehicle shall be equipped with a muffler cutout, bypass or similar device which would produce excessive smoke or gas, or permit any other chemical to flow into or upon the exhaust pipe or muffler of such vehicle, or equipped in any other way to produce or emit smoke or dangerous or annoying gases from any portion of such vehicle, other than the ordinary gases emitted by the exhaust of an internal combustion engine under normal operation.
   (b)   No motor vehicle shall be equipped with an exhaust system which generates unreasonable noise which is likely to cause inconvenience or annoyance to any persons of ordinary sensibilities.
   (c)   The person shall be deemed to have violated subsection (b) where:
      (1)   The sound emanating from the vehicle is plainly audible as defined in subsection (f) hereof; and
      (2)   The motor vehicle producing the noise is observed by another having a direct line of sight and hearing so that the person can readily identify the offending motor vehicle and distance involved.
   (d)   All motorcycles must be equipped with mufflers having baffle plates as required by law.
   (e)   Every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with a standard muffler for said type of vehicle or one that meets all of the above requirements.
   (f)   “Plainly audible” means any noise or sound produced by the vehicle that can be heard by a person using his unenhanced auditory senses from a line of sight distance of fifty feet or more from the source.
   (g)   Whoever violates this section is guilty of a minor misdemeanor.
