The Mayor shall be elected at a regular municipal election for a term of four (4) years, which term shall commence and the Mayor shall assume office on January 2, (or if such date falls on Saturday or Sunday, then on the following business day) next following his election, and shall hold office until his successor is elected and qualified. He may be a candidate to succeed himself. Thereafter, the office shall be filled as provided in this Charter.
