505.15 CONTROLLED DEER HUNTING.
   (a)   Controlled deer hunting is permitted within the City limits with either a bow and arrow or crossbow and bolt and only during the State of Ohio designated deer season.
   (b)   Controlled deer hunting within the City's corporation will be permitted with the following regulations in place to control the process.
      (1)   Bow hunting is permitted on areas of at least five (5) acres. This minimum acreage requirement may include (2) parcels which abut each other in order to achieve the five (5) acre minimum.
      (2)   Hunters (even those who hunt on their own property) must have a Cortland hunting permit to hunt on any property in Cortland.
      (3)   A landowner does not need a permit to allow people to hunt on his land, providing his land meets the requirements set forth in this section.
      (4)   All landowners who permit others to hunt on their land must retain a logbook to include the name, address and phone number of whom the landowner has approved for hunting in case this information is requested by the City of Cortland, Cortland Police Department or Cortland Fire Department.
      (5)   Only bow and arrow and crossbow and bolt are permitted and must meet the Ohio Division of Wildlife's regulations on draw weight.
      (6)   Hunting must be done from a tree stand at least eight (8) feet above the ground. Firearms are prohibited, and only deer may be hunted.
      (7)   Hunters must complete all necessary agreements with the landowner and purchase all necessary State of Ohio hunting licenses and permits. Hunters must provide proof of having passed an Ohio Bow Hunter Safety Course.
      (8)   There is no fee for a Cortland hunting permit. Hunters must comply with regulations and guidelines listed by the Ohio Division of Wildlife and by the City of Cortland, Ohio.
      (9)   Hunting requirements and restrictions, harvest information, tagging information, along with permit information, are available at the Cortland Police Department. Submit the complete permit application forms at the Cortland Police Department. The Police Department will issue permits as quickly as possible; permits may not be issued on the same day the forms are returned. (Ord. 0-56-22. Passed 11-7-22.)
