Town Judges, as presiding officers of the court, shall impose penalties within their discretion for any violations of the Town Charter or ordinances or for violations of state law committed within the police jurisdiction of the Town. Any such penalty shall not be greater than the maximum monetary amount permitted by state law, or a sentence to the Town jail or county workhouse for a maximum of 11 months 29 days, or both.
