Prior to promotion to firefighter first class, Fire Department employees shall be required to obtain certification as an Iowa paramedic, firefighter I and firefighter II and shall maintain the certification throughout his or her employment. The Fire Chief, with agreement of the employee may extend the employee’s probationary period up to three years in order to obtain the required certifications.
