§ 98.10 ABUSE OR MUTILATION OF TREES.
   No person shall:
   (A)   Break, tear, paint, deface, damage, cut, carve, transplant, or injure the bark of street trees.
   (B)   Remove any healthy street tree without approval of the Tree Commission.
   (C)   Secure, hang, fasten or attach any rope, wire, sign, nails, screws, staples or other contrivance to any street tree. The hanging of ornamental lights shall be exempt from this division (C) provided that said lights are placed in such a way as to not harm or damage the tree and are removed within 90 days of the end of the specific holiday or event for which they were placed.
   (D)   Dig in or otherwise disturb, injure or impair the root system of street trees.
   (E)   Cause or permit any wire charged with electricity to come in contact with street trees or plants or allow any gaseous liquid or solid substance which is harmful to such trees to come in contact with them. This section shall not apply to the salting or de-icing of streets by the Public Works Department for the purpose of melting snow and ice.
