(A) Every taxicab operating under this chapter shall be inspected periodically by the Chief of Police or Inspector appointed by the Chief of Police at such intervals as shall be established by the Chief of Police to insure the continued maintenance of safe operating conditions. Every vehicle operating under this chapter shall be kept in a clean and sanitary condition. If any taxicab is found to be unsafe, unsanitary or unsightly, the Taxicab Inspector may direct that the vehicle be taken out of service until made safe, sanitary and presents a neat appearance. Such taxicabs taken out of service must be inspected and approved by the Chief of Police before being returned to service.
(B) It shall be the duty of every holder to have any or all taxicabs operated by him at any designated; place and at such times as may be specified by the Police Chief or the Supervisor of Weights and Measures, for the purpose of testing taximeters or checking mechanical and sanitary conditions of the taxicabs. Failure to produce taxicabs for such testing or checking will be sufficient grounds for taking vehicles out of service until they have been checked, and taximeter tested and sealed in accordance with the provisions of this chapter. The cost of any tests and examinations shall be borne by the owner.
