A Fire Department is hereby established for the city, charged with the responsibility of providing protection for lives and property of the public. The department may provide, but is not limited to service in the areas of fire control, emergency medical service, rescue service, hazardous materials control, fire prevention, code enforcement, and related public education functions and shall enforce all municipal ordinances and laws, state and federal, with whose enforcement it is charged. Nothing contained in this chapter shall prevent the City Council from amending the Fire Department area of responsibility as deemed necessary.
