GENERAL PROVISIONS
(A) Parking in handicapped space. It shall be unlawful for any person to park an unauthorized vehicle in a designated handicapped parking space.
(B) Definitions. For the purpose of this section, the following definitions shall apply unless the context indicates or requires a different meaning.
AUTHORIZED VEHICLE. A passenger motor vehicle owned by a disabled person and carrying special registration license plates issued pursuant to NMSA § 66-3-16, or similar legislation, or any passenger motor vehicle operated by, or for the benefit of, a disabled person.
DESIGNATED HANDICAPPED PARKING SPACE. Any parking space for passenger motor vehicles clearly marked as a handicap parking space.
DISABLED PERSON. Any person who has suffered loss or the loss of use by 1 or both legs, from any cause. Any person deemed to be legally blind shall also fit within the class of DISABLED PERSONS for the purpose of this section. HANDICAPPED PERSONS is synonymous with DISABLED PERSONS for the purpose of this section.

The method of parking vehicles within the Town of Clayton, New Mexico, shall be as follows:
(A) On Front Street and on Main Street between Third Street and Eighth Street, vehicles left standing or parked shall be parked in the direction in which traffic is facing, parallel to the curb and with the right wheels within 1 foot of the curb.
(B) On the following named streets: Main Street, between Front and Third Streets; Second Street, between Chestnut and Walnut Streets; Chestnut Street, between Front and Second Streets; Walnut Street, between Front and Second Streets; Maple Street, between Front and Second Streets, and between Eighth and Ninth Streets in the town, vehicles shall be turned to the right and parked at the curb at an angle of 30 degrees to the curb with the right front wheel against the curb, or as marked.
(C) On all public streets in areas of the town zoned commercial where parking is permitted, such parking may be either parallel or at an angle in conformance with the way such street is striped from time to time by the governmental entity that has jurisdiction over such street; in the event that a street in a commercial zone is not striped for parking either angle or parallel parking is permissible.
(D) On all other streets, not specified herein, vehicles shall be parked at the curb, within 1 foot thereof, and shall be parked in the direction in which traffic is facing, that is, parallel parking shall be employed. If there shall be no curb, then parking shall be within approximately 1 foot of the established curb line.
(E) No vehicle may remain parked in the same place within the Business District longer than 24 hours consecutively.
(F) (1) It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation whatsoever to leave any trailer or any other vehicle which is not capable of being self-propelled, parked and detached from its means of propulsion on any of the following streets:
(a) On Main Street and Monroe Street at any place within the town limits;
(b) On First Street at any point between Peach Street and Spruce Street;
(c) On Maple Street between Front Street and First Street; and
(d) On Chestnut and Walnut Streets between Front Street and Second Street.
(2) Any person engaged in the business of selling second-hand cars or trucks or farm equipment, both new and used, including but not limited to self-propelled farm vehicles, shall keep all the second-hand cars or trucks, farm equipment and self-propelled farm vehicles offered for sale on private property and shall not permit any of the same to remain upon any public highway of the Town of Clayton.
(G) It shall be unlawful to leave any wrecked or disabled self-propelled vehicle for more than 5 hours on any of the aforementioned streets within the territorial limits hereinbefore set forth.
(H) In the event any trailer or other vehicle which is not capable of being self-propelled is so parked while detached from means of propulsion for any time whatsoever, or any wrecked or disabled self- propelled vehicle is left upon any of the streets within the territorial limits herein before set forth for more than 5 hours, the Chief of Police or any other police officer may order the trailer or vehicle impounded and stored at any public garage at the expense of the owner of any trailer or vehicle, in addition to any fine or imprisonment which may be imposed under § 73.99(C) hereof for violation of this subchapter.

It shall be unlawful to double park any motor vehicle within that portion of the Business District of the Town of Clayton known as the Fire Zone, except as follows:
(A) Passenger vehicles may not be double parked for any period;
(B) Light delivery trucks, so long as actually necessary, double park on the side being delivered to, provided there is no regular parking space within 100 feet of the door to which delivery is being made;
(C) On Saturdays and holidays between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., no deliveries shall be made from any truck or car, unless parked at the curb in a regular parking space;
(D) All trucks parking within the Fire Zone limits of the town shall be under the direction of the Police Department at all times and hours, and that at any time an owner or driver is ordered or asked to move a truck by a police officer of the town, the owner or driver shall comply at once. No truck shall park in front of any premises occupied in whole or in part by a church building; and
(E) No vehicle may park in any alley at any time except while actually engaged in loading or unloading.
