Every vehicle shall be equipped with suitable electrical lights, including not more than 2 head lamps, a tail light, a tail light reflector and a stop lamp on every new vehicle sold in New Mexico from and after January 1, 1954, meeting the requirements of NMSA §§ 66-3-801 through 66-3-887, as amended, a brake or brakes, a horn, a muffler and a rear-vision mirror, all in good working order, the requirements of the statutes being included in this subchapter by this express reference insofar as they relate to vehicles covered by this subchapter; in particular, every muffler of the vehicle shall be in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise, and no person shall use a muffler, cut-out, bypass or similar device upon any vehicle on the highway, and the muffler, engine and power mechanism of every vehicle shall be so equipped and adjusted as to prevent the escape of excessive fumes or smoke.
