(A) During winter months, the Public Works Director will monitor weather service storm advisories and upon a snow storm forecast, equipment will be mobilized and personnel placed on standby. Once a snow storm begins, all designated personnel will assemble at the Public Works garage and make preparation for snow removal as well as treating of icing conditions. Upon the accumulation of one inch and continuing snowfall, the Public Works Director shall dispatch personnel to their assignments.
(B) In the case of a severe snow storm in which the Public Works Director is of the opinion that town forces will be unable to remove snow in a timely manner, the Public Works Director, upon the approval of the Town Manager, shall contact local contractors with whom prior arrangements have been made, to begin snow plowing with motorgraders and other equipment. These contractors shall work under the direction of the Public Works Director.
(C) The Police Department shall closely monitor road conditions within the town and provide traffic control as required. The Police Department will also advise the public and other agencies of traffic conditions.
(D) During a snow storm and until streets have become reasonably passable (as determined by the Chief of Police), the Public Works Department will maintain 24-hour operation with work crews assigned to eight-hour shifts. The Town Manager may tem- porarily assign other employees to snow removal work with the Public Works Department. Other town operations excluding emergency services may be temporarily suspended by authority of the Town Manager during this period.
