(a) The City hereby elects to participate in the program provided for in the Illinois Fire Protection Training Act.

(b) Before an individual may commence regular employment as a fire-fighter, he or she must have been certified by the Illinois Fire Protection Personnel Standards and Education Commission as having successfully completed an approved training course as provided for in such Act or shall be otherwise qualified as required by Council or the Fire Chief.

(c) Such basic training must be completed by the trainee within his or her probationary period of twenty-four months.
