The chief executive officer of the City shall be the Mayor, who shall be a citizen of the United States, a qualified elector of the City and a resident thereof for at least one year prior to his or her election. He or she shall hold his or her office for a term of four years or until his or her successor is elected and qualified and shall execute an official bond as provided in Section 256.20 conditioned upon the faithful discharge of the duties of such office.
