442.01 GENERALLY; SIGNS.
   (a)   The driver of a vehicle shall obey the instructions of an official traffic control device applicable thereto which is placed in accordance with this chapter, unless otherwise directed by the police and subject to the exceptions granted the driver of an authorized emergency vehicle in this Traffic Code.
   (b)   No provision of this Traffic Code for which signs are required shall be enforced against an alleged violator if at the time and place of the alleged violation an official sign is not in proper position and sufficiently legible to be seen by an ordinarily observant person. Whenever a particular section does not state that signs are required, such section shall be effective without signs being erected to give notice thereof.

   (c)   No person shall ignore or disregard a stop sign, traffic sign or parking sign within the City limits, whether such signs are now erected or hereafter erected by the State Department of Transportation or the City.
