9.64.020   Parental responsibility.
It is unlawful for the parent, guardian or other adult person having the care and custody of a minor under the age of eighteen years to allow or permit such minor to loiter, idle, wander, stroll, drive a car or other motor vehicle, or ride therein, upon the public streets, highways, roads, alleys, parks, playgrounds or other public grounds, public places, public buildings, places of amusement and entertainment, vacant lots or other unsupervised places between the hours as set forth in Section 9.64.010, on the respective days of the week as set forth in Section 9.64.010; provided, however, that the provisions of this section do not apply when the minor is accompanied by his or her parent, guardian or other adult person having the care and custody of the minor, or where the minor is upon an emergency errand or legitimate business directed by his or her parent, guardian or other adult person having the care and custody of the minor. Each violation of the provision of this section constitutes a separate offense.
In any prosecution under this section, it shall not constitute a defense thereto that the parent, guardian or other adult person having the care and custody of a minor under said age did not have knowledge that such minor did loiter, idle wander, stroll or play in or upon any of the abovementioned places, at any time between the abovementioned hours.
