For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context indicates or requires a different meaning.
ESTABLISHED MERCHANT. Any person or business that is licensed in North Carolina, or is registered in North Carolina with a privilege license or has a valid sales tax license and engages in the lawful sales of products or services, either as the property owner or tenant of the property from which business is transacted.
ITINERANT MERCHANT. Any person not being an established merchant of the village, who shall expose for sale, either on the street or street right-of-way, any goods, wares or articles of merchandise. Exception for fresh fruits, vegetables and similar food products grown on the same property; yard sales not more than one per quarter located on the property on which the sale is taking place; and sales on the premises of the Chimney Rock Volunteer Fire Department.
PEDDLER. Any person engaged in the act of peddling articles or merchandise.
PEDDLING. The sale or offering for sale from house to house, or business to business, by any person from a cart, truck automobile, or other vehicle operated over and upon the streets and highways any articles of merchandise, including, without limitations, fresh fruits and vegetables, farm products, household medicines, remedies and other articles.
