Each landlord or property owner shall inspect every smoke detector required to be installed pursuant to this subchapter, at least once every six months to confirm that such smoke detector is in proper working order. Where such smoke detector is operated by a battery, the tenant shall replace the battery with a new battery at least once every six months in each smoke detector. The landlord or property owner shall keep a record of each inspection on a form provided by the city and rental landlords shall file a copy with the Director of Public Safety. The landlord shall maintain such records for a period of at least three years.
