The Chief of Police shall be appointed by the Village President with consent of the Board of Trustees and may be removed or discharged by the Village Board as set forth in 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-4. All other full-time police officers shall be appointed, promoted, removed, or discharged in the manner provided in 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-1 et seq. If the village becomes disconnected from the fire protection district and provides by ordinance for the creation and operation of a fire department by full-time firefighters employed by the village, such firefighters, except for the Chief of the Fire Department, who shall be appointed by the Village President with consent of the Board of Trustees, shall be appointed, promoted, removed, or discharged in the same manner as police officers.
