1501.13 YARD FIRE HYDRANTS:
   (a)   Private yard fire hydrants shall be provided and installed upon commercial, multifamily and industrial properties where the most remote point of fire-fighting access into any building or structure is more than three hundred (300) feet from an existing public fire hydrant. A point of fire-fighting access includes, but is not limited to, any door, window or exterior roof access hatch. The distance shall be measured as hose would be laid from a fire engine along the path of travel a fire engine would use from the nearest public fire hydrant to the furthest point of vehicle access; then as hose would be laid by fire fighters to the most remote point of fire-fighting access into the building. Additional yard fire hydrants shall be provided and installed so that no point of fire-fighting access is more than three hundred (300) feet from a public fire hydrant or private yard hydrant upon the same property; the distance being measured as described above.
 
   (b)   Proposed yard hydrant locations shall be subject to the approval of the Fire Prevention Officer. Yard hydrants and water mains servicing yard hydrants shall conform to the requirements of the municipal Public Utilities Code.
